Picture of the Month

Blog Post #15

This is a new idea.  And it wasn’t my idea. It was my daughters. “Dad you have so many great pictures that stand alone. They are not part of a story. What if we feature a new one every month?” and she’s right so here we go.

It’s July and we are celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday. I wanted to show a picture that represented our country‘s birthday. After walking around the house, over and over, and flipping through boxes and trunks for the right one, I kept coming back to this one.

This is a black-and-white that Davidson took a long time ago. He signed it, but unfortunately left no other identification. No title, no index number,  no copyright.  A one of one. I think he just thought the moment was worth capturing.

The picture appears to be a Fourth of July parade group probably resting after marching the parade route. Young and old black-and-white. Everyone in costume. Our flag probably represented. So I decided to take a closer look. 48 stars. So that places it at 1912 to 1959. If I had to guess, I would say close to 1912.  And any thoughts?  Let me know!

Everyone have a great celebration this Fourth of July!

Next month? Picture of the month number two!

All I can say is WOW! The closer and more you look the more unusual the characters in that crowd get! I’d proudly hang that picture and tell everyone it’s from my family reunion of years ago! Happy 250th and 4th of July.

Joe, Another great blog and photo. Long shot guess – Bristol’s (RI) 4th of July parade??? It’s close to Providence.

Hi Joe.For the time frame that I think this was take, say around 1912,local to Providence would have made sense. You can imagine, traveling long distances back then, was not easy.Almost all of the pictures he took, say before 1915,were taken close to his studio.Lincoln was also another town that he visited often.
Thanks for the input.Always enjoy hearing from followers.Have you signed up for the blog?Great blog posts coming up.Have a great 4th.
